Traveling south on 1-5, take the second Ashland exit. Travel east on Dead Indian Memorial Road climbing up the hill then dropping down toward Howard Prairie Reservoir. Travel past the turnoff to Howard Prairie Resort, approximately ½-mile. Look for the large barn and corrals on the right side of the road. For an easier “haul” but a few extra miles, take Hwy 140 from White City east toward Klamath Falls. Turn south at North Fork Campground Road. Turn right on Dead Indian Road. Lily Glen is about 4 miles on the left.
Barn area and 32 corrals are in the two group reservation areas along with 8 campsites. The first-come first-serve camping area is just inside the gate and to the left. There are 8 sites available, most with 2-horse corrals. Also, an accessible site is available near the restroom. There are two hand pumps for potable water and horse water, fire pits, and restrooms for both areas. Manure dumpsite within camp. Bring a wheelbarrow. This is a heavily used area from June to September.
Abundant trail riding. You may ride around Howard Prairie Lake or take off into mountainous areas. You may ride anywhere on the north or south side of Dead Indian Road, most of which is BLM. This was once the stage stop between Klamath Falls and Ashland and the barn is historic but very usable. There is a small stream to cross in the summer (larger in early spring) but most horses cross with no problems.
