Minnesota: Minnesota Horse Expo 2009

Horse Shows Minnesota State Fairgrounds
1265 Snelling Ave North, St. Paul, MN

April 24 - 25 - 26 - 2009

A message from the President about the 2007 Minnesota Horse Expo: Twenty five years ago, a few members of the Minnesota Horse Council decided to have a Horse Expo. That was the birth of the Minnesota Horse Expo, the first of which took place in 1982 at the former Auditorium in downtown Minneapolis. The corporation of the Minnesota Horse Exposition Inc. was formed as a subsidiary of the Minnesota Horse Council to be an educational event and the main fund raiser for the Minnesota Horse Council. The Expo was held at the Minneapolis Auditorium through 1987 when the Auditorium was torn down and replaced with the new Convention Center. There was no Expo in 1988. In 1989, the Expo moved to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul. The first years there, the Expo only rented the Coliseum and the Horse Barn. As the attendance and request for vendor and stall space grew more buildings and outside space were added.

At present we use eight buildings and all of the outside space in the area around them, from the Judging Arena to the Empire Commons Building. The Directors, staff and you, the people who come, have made it into one of the largest educational, Horse Council sponsored Expos in the country. Last year, in spite of three days of continual, soggy, cold rain, over 49,000 horse enthusiasts came to the Horse Expo to watch, buy and learn. The profits from the Expo are turned over to the Minnesota Horse Council each year in September and they in turn distribute the money to various committees. Most of the money goes towards scholarships and grants. For more information about that, please visit www.mnhorsecouncil.org. Since the start of the Minnesota Horse Expo in 1982, the Minnesota Horse Expo has turned close to three million dollars over to the Minnesota Horse Council. I would like to thank those people from 1982 who had the foresight to establish the Minnesota Horse Expo. What would we do on the last full weekend of April without the Expo?

Glen G. Eaton
President Minnesota Horse Expo, Inc.
