llubinka writes "Giving a bath to your horse can be fun and healthy!
Read some of my tips for an easy and enjoyable way to do it
Tools I use:
Rubber currycomb Mane and tail
comb
Dandy brush
A body brush with soft bristles
I
begin with brushing down the whole body to remove most of the dirt,
loose hair and dry skin and at the same time I am checking the skin for
possible cuts , scrapes or any problems on the skin. You may use the
curry comb ( in circular motion as giving a massage) on the body but is
to hard on the legs and face where then I use a soft brittle brush. Then
brush down the body with a soft brittle brush (body brush) following
the hair's direction.
I had not seen a horse to like the water more than mine, she actually
knows the hose already and goes with me without hesitation, but not all
horses are equal so you might want to use a wash rack and tide your
horse while doing so.
I wet and work with shampoo (dilute the shampoo in a pale of water, it
will be easier to rinse) the whole body, leaving for last the face,
after rinsing well, I apply a conditioner to the mane and tail and work
on these two with a comb.. Don't forget this is a good time to check
the hooves too.
As a precaution, use a set of combs/brushes for each horse, it will
help eliminate the posibility of transmitting any unseeing disease.
