Orphan
Acres Equine and Wildlife Rescue, Rehabilitation, and Sanctuary, Inc. is a
private, non-profit (501(c)(3)) farm in Viola, Idaho where abused, neglected,
and abandoned horses and other animals are cared for and rehabilitated. We've
been in operation since 1975, caring for animals ranging from horses to parrots
to deer to squirrels, and just about everything in between. How our animals
arrive at the farm, the length of their stay, and where they go when they
are ready to leave all depend on a variety of factors.
Horses also arrive from many places. One recent addition came
all the way from Vermont; after quite a long trip, he has settled in well
at his new home. Many residents are a bit more local though, coming from homes
where their owners were either unwilling or unable to properly care for them.
Often starved or otherwise neglected, these horses require a lot of love--and
a lot of food!--before they are back in their prime and ready to go on to
new homes. We've found homes for over 300 horses, but if we find they are
too old or have too many problems to safely be adopted out, they stay to play
with the herd at OA for the rest of their lives.
