Rocky Point Natural Resources Management Area - This area was once operated by the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) as a global communications center but that function became obsolete with the arrival of earth orbiting communication satellites. Today its almost 6,000 acres of pine-oak forest provides miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails as well as seasonal hunting. The 20 mile mountain bike trail is especially popular. From the Long Island Expressway, take Exit 67N (Route 21 - Rocky Point Road). Parking areas are located on Route 25A in Rocky Point, Rocky Point Road (bike trail access only), and Whiskey Road.

A seasonal access permit is required for all activities on all NYSDEC managed lands on Long Island with the exception of the Ridge Conservation Area and the Quogue Wildlife Refuge. The permit is free and valid for three years. To obtain a three-year seasonal access permit , please download the application (* 170 KB pdf file) and return it to:

In addition to the three-year seasonal access permit, a daily access permit is required for all hunting on Rocky Point and Otis Pike Preserve properties during November and December and for deer hunting on all applicable properties during the special January firearm deer season.

Group permits and special use permits are also available for appropriate activities.

It is recommended groups seeking these permits apply for them 30 days prior to a planned activity.
