The Museum of the Cariboo Chilcotin is dedicated to preserving and promoting this ranching heritage.
It
is the only museum in BC to focus on ranching and rodeo, and it honours
both the cowboys of the past and the present. The museum is home to the
BC Cowboy Hall of Fame and a special display area features photos,
biographies and memorabilia of the province's outstanding cowboys.
Rodeo
and ranching go hand in hand, especially in Williams Lake which is a
major cattle shipping center and hosts a number of rodeos each year.
Rodeo displays are featured along with the ranching history. While the
museum focuses on the Cariboo Chilcotin and Williams Lake, it has an
ever-growing resource library, and now has a video on BC's ranching
industry.
The artistic side of cowboy culture is not
forgotten. The museum features the work of western artists and holds a
western art show each May. Recent renovations include a gallery
designed to promote the work of painters and craftspeople. The gift
store features western poets and musicians.
