ReRun strives to give ex-racehorses a second chance at a productive life in new homes by first evaluating temperaments, talents and physical capabilities and then matching the animals to new owners. To assist in the re-training and recuperation process, we utilize the help of volunteers and paid personnel skilled in horsemanship. Only horses with a good chance of placement are accepted into the program. In addition, though we cannot physically house them, we will attempt to find new owners for horses whose injuries or temperaments make a future under-tack unlikely. ReRun feels that this is a project that the entire Thoroughbred industry--race tracks, farms, owners, trainers and jockeys--should support. It benefits everyone in one way or another. It promotes humane treatment of our athletes by giving owners an alternative to running sore horses because they don't know what else to do with them. That in turn promotes safety for our riders and a better image for our sport, not to mention a brighter future for the horses themselves.
